TEDx Belo Horizonte 2012
CLIENT: Art and Vision Institute
THEME: Expanding Horizons
OUR ROLE: Event Design & Art Direction
LOCATION: Belo Horizonte, Brazil
DATE: 2012
Staged in May of 2012, TEDx Belo Horizonte was a day full of great presentations and design. The design for the entire event, starting with branding to stage set-up, to common areas and signage, down to gift bags, was implemented as envisioned and directed by Zoë Melo and TOUCH.
Story
When our founder Zoë Melo was approached by TED fellows photographer Adam Huggins and film maker Anita Doron to join the organizer team and design the event, she immediately thought it would be a challenging experience to design a TED event, but also a fantastic opportunity to bring together local designers & artisans that already work on social design projects to share their work with a larger audience. A reflection on global challenges using local solutions.
Process
“I wanted the participants to come into our event and have a full experience; interact with local social design projects and a space mostly created with recycled materials” said Melo.
That thought was our framework to work with the team and develop the ideas for the event. From the design of the smallest items to the installations of the large spaces and stage, our event carried the signature of function and sustainability. We made sure that we were as minimal as possible in terms of resource usage, being mindful of waste in order to minimize our footprint. Everything at TEDx Belo Horizonte was created using recycled materials or objects we curated made by local designers and artisans.
Impact
TEDx BeloHorizonte occupied an important role in the city of Belo Horizonte by connecting a huge network of people to innovative ideas and projects that are changing the landscape of the community.
