LOCATION: Al Dhafra Festival - Abu Dhabi, UAE

We were invited by New York based designer Tucker Robbins to create and coordinate a 10 day hands on workshop in collaboration with other masters trainees, designers and social entrepreneurs during the Al Dhafra Festival in Liwa, which celebrates every year Bedouin culture and attracts local and international crowds.

Through training sessions and panel discussions, knowledge and creativity was shared among all participants and resulted in a palm woven installation that was showcased by Tucker Robbins at NYC's Armory Show in March of 2015. The program attracted a great group of professionals who traveled to the festival.

Impact

Sustaining local traditional skills is about survival. On one hand, they shape local cultural identity and on the other, they enable principles of sustainability and community-based structures, embodying ethical practices that need support in our fast-paced globalized world.

The innovation here is not only economic, but also social, cultural, and environmental. We see this as the tip of something very crucial not only at a local level, but for the future of our world as a whole.
